Context and purpose

Verse miscellany, compiled c. 1691-1706 by Octavia Walsh. The manuscript also includes three recipes, which appear to be the work of a later hand. Most of the poems are fair copies, with occasional corrections, though the last (unfinished) poem (Item 49) has been heavily revised. Two of the poems (Item 37 and Item 44) are ascribed elsewhere to Octavia Walsh's brother, William Walsh, albeit on uncertain authority in a posthumous collection. With these possible exceptions, all the poetry in the manuscript is probably by Octavia Walsh herself
